Repeat the process

When should you edit, and when should you stop?

Updated over 2 years ago

A great essay often requires many editing cycles. We recommend repeating the process of sentence rewriting and reordering, as well as paragraph reordering and re-outlining.

Often it is a good idea to wait a few days to do this so that you can look at what you have produced with fresh eyes. Then you will be able to see what you have written, instead of seeing what you think you wrote (which is the case when you try to edit immediately after producing).

Your essay is not truly finished until you cannot improve your essay through editing. You’ve reached this point when almost all of the rewriting and reordering you try makes things worse instead of better.
